LAHORE - Pakistan Awami Tehreek Chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri has again sought help of the army chief for getting justice in Model Town case.“The FIR of the Model Town incident was registered on intervention of General Raheel Sharif now he (COAS) must help us to ensure fair trial of the case,” he said while addressing participants of the sit-ins which PAT organised yesterday in different cities under second phase of its “Qisas (blood for blood) Movement.
”Delegations from the PPP, PTI, PML-Q, Jamaat-e-Islami, Majlis-e-Wahdatul Muslimeen and other opposition parties participated in the sit-ins. Awami Muslim League president Sheikh Rasheed addressed the sit-in in Faisalabad.PAT spokesperson said sit-ins were held in 80 cities of Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and would be held in total 200 cities till August 28. Dr Qadri would announce the next strategy after the end of second phase, he added.Yesterday’s rally in Lahore started from Nasir Bagh and reached the Charing Cross in the evening where Dr Qadri addressed workers via video link from party head office in Model Town. Police had blocked the adjacent arteries by placing containers and made strict security arrangements.Addressing protesters, Qadri said the fair trial was avoided in Model Town case and the Punjab government had not made public Justice Baqir Ali Najafi report on the incident. And now, he added, the government mulled over amendment in criminal procedure code regarding logic of the complaint.“The amendment in CrPC is being adopted to make dead the Model Town case. But we won’t let it happen. The killers of our innocent workers would not get escape,” he said.“The 10-day movement would continue till August 28 and result in ouster of Sharifs. I will announce next strategy if their regime (PML-N government) continued,” he said.Qadri said he would himself lead the protest movement in next phase. He called for launching army operation in Punjab which according to him was the centre of terrorism. He alleged Sharifs sponsored all kinds of terror activities from Punjab into other parts of the country.“Terrorism cannot be eliminated without launching of Zarb-e-Azb type operation in Punjab. Sharifs don’t want end to terrorism in country as there is a link between their corruption and terrorism. Intelligence agencies must realise the terror cannot be rooted out without breaking this link.”He said the non-implementation of wider part of the National Action Plan clearly showed that the government had failed to honour its obligations on this front and did not want terrorism to come to an end. He also claimed India sponsored Sharif family to come into power in general elections 2013 to achieve its (India) goals of destabilising country. He alleged speeches made by a parliamentarian against army and intelligence agencies after Quetta incident had the backing of the prime minister.“Security agencies must find the connection that why Quetta like incidents occur when the government of Nawaz Sharif faces any threat. India sponsors such terror incidents in the country to divert attention of mass movements against Sharif government,” he claimed. He alleged that government of Nawaz Sharif was a threat to Pakistan’s sovereignty calling people to choose either Sharifs or Pakistan.Published in The Nation newspaper on 21-Aug-2016
